Water For People

Water For People helps the most impoverished people in the world improve the quality of their lives by supporting locally sustainable drinking water, sanitation, and health and hygiene projects.
 
CH2M HILL has supported Water For People since its founding in 1991. Their mission echoes CH2M HILL's commitment to building a better world. The firm's involvement dates back to Ken Miller, former CH2M HILL senior vice president, who helped start the organization in 1991. Today, many employees participate in local Water For People committees, and Elisa Speranza, President of CH2M HILL's Operations & Maintenance business group, serves on the board of directors. CH2M HILL has hosted a global online giving campaign benefiting Water For People since 2003, raising more than $647,000 to date. In addition to hosting an annual Water For People workplace giving campaign, CH2M HILL supports a variety of public awareness and fundraising events throughout the year.
 
In addition, CH2M HILL employees volunteer as members of Water For People's World Water Corps. The World Water Corps program matches the specific needs and requirements of Water For People's country programs with the skills and passion of people throughout North America who want to enhance the impact of the organization's work overseas. CH2M HILL employees have assisted with projects such as mapping to provide baseline data for development, monitoring the functionality of past projects, and evaluating overall program effectiveness.

Cultural Awareness Event in Calgary Raises Money for WFP

Reflecting on the international scope of Water For People's work and the multi-cultural make-up of CH2M HILL's Calgary office, employees decided to host a "Taste of CH2M HILL" To raise funds for Water For People in 2008. Approximately 20 employees brought food for a lunchtime fundraiser. The food reflected the employee's heritage and countries represented included: Brazil, China, Italy, India, Korea, Lebanon, Portugal, and Tanzania, among others. Participants learned about WFP as well as their fellow employees' cultures.

International Support from Singapore

Employees in Singapore supported Water For People en masse at three separate events. Brown bag presentations started the proceedings, introduced Water For People's mission, and also promoted the other events. Nearly 150 people attended a lunchtime carnival featuring homemade food, gifts, and jewelry. All purchases benefited Water For People. The month-long campaign wrapped up with a rousing edition of CH2M HILL Idol, featuring senior management performing.

The Salt Lake City office held its annual BBQ fundraiser in support of WFP. As always, the event was well-attended and raised several hundred dollars. Employees, clients, and friends mixed and mingled enjoying homemade BBQ while learning about Water For People.
