Milwaukee Staff Mentor State Champion Youth Engineering Team
CH2M HILL's Milwaukee office is a strong supporter of the Future City youth engineering program. The Future City program allows middle school students to design and build a city of the future, using engineering concepts to solve some of the major problems facing cities today. CH2M HILL sponsors Future City through National Engineers Week both locally and nationally. Milwaukee employees serve as mentors for the 2008 Wisconsin state champion team from St. Alphonsus School. The team went on to finish 13th overall in the National Competition, and 5th in the presentation. Their City features an innovative water-energy-transportation system using carbon nanotubes, copper nanowire and magnets to clean and transport water under magnetic roads while generating electricity. The pipes repair themselves without having to dig up the roads.
