Ken Thompson Becomes CH2M HILL Global Leader for Integrated Security and Emergency Preparedness

CH2M HILL is pleased to announce that CH2M HILL Fellow Technologist Ken Thompson has been selected as the firm’s Global Leader for Integrated Security and Emergency Preparedness.

Thompson has more than 30 years of experience in water quality and water sector security, both as a utility manager and as a consultant. He has most recently been serving as the program manager for CH2M HILL’s security initiative for water and wastewater systems. Over the past ten years, Thompson has been instrumental in developing and implementing real-time water quality monitoring systems, such as a prototype monitor for biotoxins, viruses, protozoans, and bacteria in water distribution systems. He has managed and provided expert guidance on water contamination warning system projects and vulnerability assessments for utilities and government installations throughout the world, including ongoing projects for the Dallas, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and New York City. Prior to joining CH2M HILL in 2001, Thompson worked for public utilities for 19 years in water, wastewater, and recycled water system operations, process evaluation, water quality, and regulations.

“Ken has been a driving force in developing CH2M HILL’s security business, and we look forward to continuing to expand our security and emergency preparedness services throughout the world under Ken’s leadership,” says Brock McEwen, CH2M HILL Water Business Group Technology Director.  “Ken not only has extensive applied and managerial experience in water sector security, but also is truly committed to helping communities around the world protect their drinking water systems and residents.”

Thompson is an active participant in the water industry at large, having served as Chair of the AWWA National Water Security Committee. He has authored water security guidance for AWWA and has developed training curriculum for emergency response planning, business continuity and emergency exercises. Thompson is also deeply involved in research as a Project Advisory Committee member for Water Research Foundation (WRF) and Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) projects, a member of the WateReuse Research Foundation Advisory Committee, and a project manager for WRF, WERF, WateReuse Research Foundation, and National Water Research Institute research projects.
