U.S. Commerce Secretary John Bryson today announced the 16 companies that will join him on a business development mission to India, his first as Commerce Secretary. During the mission, Secretary Bryson will meet with senior level Indian government officials to advocate for U.S. export opportunities in India’s rapidly expanding infrastructure sector, and promote investment opportunities in America–both key priorities of the Obama administration.
CH2M HILL has been present in India for almost a decade and provides planning, design, and program management services to premier private and public clients across various sectors. Among the flagship projects it is working on includes the Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai; the Interceptor Sewer project, Delhi; Solar Power PV Plants, Rajasthan and West Bengal; and an Industrial Manufacturing Facility, Maharashtra. For this infrastructure mission, CH2M HILL will be represented by its Managing Director for India, Dr Pawan Maini.

This year, in recognition of UN Water World Water Day, and in an effort to increase water and food security awareness, CH2M HILL is challenging its 30,000 employees around the world, as well as our friends, families and clients, to reduce our water footprint by curbing water use on March 22. The first-ever “Panama Canal 2012 International Engineering and Infrastructure Congress,” to be held April 18-20 in Panama City, will bring together technical experts and infrastructure leaders to share best practices for project delivery, risk management, and financing.
CH2M HILL Chairman and CEO Lee McIntire will be one of the keynote speakers, as will ACP Administrator Alberto Aleman Zubieta and Steve Stockton from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineering.

(Japan’s system, called CASBEE, has a “strong emphasis on earthquake resistance,” according to Peter Braithwaite, who works for the sustainability group at CH2M Hill, an international project delivery firm.)

"The water market . . . is inextricably linked to energy," says Bob Weinschrott, vice-president of industrial water and process for CH2M HILL Canada. "We see very high demand. It's hard to hire people with a strong water specialization just because everybody is so busy. In Western Canada . . . one of the things driving development is oilsands, which is very water-intensive."

A first-generation college student, Yvette Brett graduated from Morgan State University in 2001. That year, she was ranked second among civil engineering grads at Morgan State University. While in college, Yvette began working for the Army Corps of Engineers as a summer hire (1999-2001) and as a co-op student with the Baltimore District. She excelled in the environmental engineering program, assisting with management of Superfund sites in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency. Superfund is the federal government’s program to clean up the nation’s uncontrolled hazardous waste sites.

Water runs through the story of Diana Frost's life. She watched women and children carrying buckets of water from the river every day while she lived in Gabon, in west-central Africa, for six years as a young girl. Now, with the support of her employer, CH2M HILL, she will be putting her skills and experience to work as a volunteer with Water For People on a two-week project in Africa starting next week.
