An Introduction to Engineering course at a local high school in Corvallis, Oregon, presents its students with a real-life engineering challenge and then gives them three months to do the calculations, develop an engineering plan, and present the plan to CH2M HILL engineers. The 2009 project focuses on the Panama Canal Expansion, scheduled for completion in 2014 for the 100th anniversary of the opening of the original canal.
