CH2M HILL’s Ryan Rhoades Named One of the “Top 20 Under 40” by ENR Southwest

As judged by a panel of industry experts, this prestigious recognition identifies Rhoades as one of the sharpest, most forward-looking young leaders in the US Southwest who will direct the engineering and construction industry into the future. Being named to the Top 20 Under 40 list showcases not only Rhoades’ leadership, drive and teamwork, but also his dedication to industry involvement, community service, landmark projects and work-life balance. Rhoades and the entire Top 20 Under 40 list are featured in ENR Southwest’s January print edition.
Rhoades was nominated for this award by a client in Ariz., who shared, “Throughout his 14 year engineering and management career, Ryan has received various awards, great recognition by clients, and has been a very successful recognized leader at CH2M HILL as well as in the engineering and construction fields. His extraordinary leadership, dedication, devotion, great knowledge in design and construction, work ethic, passion, proactive communication with his teams, and people-oriented personality have led him to become a well-respected leader. Ryan has successfully completed all projects on budget and schedule.”
Rhoades is originally from Rapid City, S.D., received a bachelor’s of science from South Dakota State University in 1998 and started his career as a resident inspector and field surveyor with the Departments of Transportation in South Dakota and North Carolina. Ryan spent many years focused on construction and project management, working on high-profile infrastructure projects in the U.S. Southwest. A sample of his projects include leading a high-caliber team to manage the water department for the Town of Gilbert, Ariz.; successful project management of a $47 million Oasis Groundwater Treatment system in Glendale, Ariz., to remove nitrate and arsenic from groundwater; design of the state-of-the-art 30 million gallon per day Chaparral Water Treatment Plant in Scottsdale, Ariz; and pilot testing of an innovative natural treatment wetlands system to provide an inland reverse osmosis concentrate management solution in Goodyear, Ariz.
“My career aspiration is to be a leading project manager in the global water industry with a strong technical foundation, and to be an advocate for sustainable water policies and industry partnership,” shared Rhoades.
Rhoades became Operations Lead for the CH2M HILL Water Business Group in Phoenix in 2009, effectively mentoring staff and leading technology, delivery and development efforts.

Rhoades is an active member of the Arizona Water Association, American Water Works Association and Construction Management Association of America, participating in committees and conferences, including serving as Chair of the Arizona Water Association 2014 conference planning committee. Rhoades presents his knowledge and experience at conferences, including 10 technical presentations and publications at regional and national conferences.
Rhoades is committed to both his local and global communities, and in addition to volunteering time with industry associations, Rhoades is an active contributor and volunteer for programs that support the homeless, animal welfare, under-privileged youth. Rhoades helps lead fundraising efforts for Water For People during CH2M HILL’s workplace giving campaign, and has traveled to many countries in six continents promoting diversity, cultural awareness and making a difference in communities. Rhoades’ experience, involvement and contribution to communities have enabled him to become a fair leader understanding how to manage people with different backgrounds.
